Read more about backup programs in Linux. So, do not wait any more, go and configure your automatic backup in Linux. CONCLUSIONĪutomatic backup in Linux takes only three lines of simple code in your crontab file, but it can be a lifesaver one day. You can purchase a hard drive using my Amazon page, where I share the hard drives I use. If my computer gets stolen, I will still have a backup of all data on my external hard drive. Build a simple Python script on the Raspberry Pi and use Gnome Schedule to get the script to run when the Pi reboots.Part of the tutorial which lives here: h. That'll be the one to give to the scheduler, along with the information it needs to automatically back up. I personally have a WD 4 TB hard drive installed on my system that is used for automatic backup, and I also copy monthly backups manually to an external WD 20 TB RAID hard drive. If you right click on Applications, choose Edit Menus, then work your way down to grsync, and choose properties, you'll see the command used to start the program. I recommend using a separate hard drive either installed in your computer or connected externally through the USB. You should never store your backup on the same hard drive which you backup from. NOTE that your computer must be on during the scheduled time to execute the rsync commands. Second, looking for specific files in a compressed backup is slow. You can also compress monthly and weekly backups, but in my experience, compression is not practical. I think this is the most reasonable way to automatically backup Linux. If you have a limited amount of space, you can set monthly backups to be overwritten too. For example, my backup created on April 1, 2019, has the following name monthly_20190401. To configure the time of your automatic backup in Linux, change these time points as you need.įrom the above command, you can also see that daily and weekly backups will be overwritten, while all monthly backups will be kept with the date in their names. Hence, my schedule command means that rsync will run at 12:00 daily, at 15:00 on Friday weekly, and at 16:00 on the first day of every month. The columns abbreviation means the following: Gat is a front-end for 'cron' and 'at' but should be simple enough that users can use it without prior knowledge of 'cron' or 'at.' Requirements GTK+ v1.2 or newer (2. You can see the schedule format from the comments in the crontab file. The GNOME Task Scheduler (Gat) allows you to schedule and manage one-time and recurring tasks using a simple GNOME interface. Here, I will only explain the schedule format. Related: Restore and Backup PPAs, Applications, and Packages in Linux With Aptik 3.I am not going to explain the rsync command. Lastly, install the urbackup-server package as follows: sudo apt install urbackup-server After the installation have been completed, run GNOME Schedule as root by using the commands below: enockenock-pc: sudo gnome-schedule. You can use Task Scheduler, if you are running Windows, and iCal if you are on Mac. Open your terminal and c opy and paste the command below: enockenock-pc: sudo apt-get install gnome-schedule. 1 It looks like GNOME schedule isnt being actively developed, although you can still get the source code and try building it yourself. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:uroni/urbackup Gnome Scheduler might be the easiest way to schedule these backups for Linux. Then, add the official UrBackup repository to your system. Using Grsync, you can easily backup, transfer, synchronize files and folders within the local system or between a local and remote systems. Speedy restorations and multi-platform support make it an apt app for enterprises.īefore installing UrBackup, update your system's repository list. Grsync is a simple GTK graphical front-end application for Rsync command line utility. The software sends email notifications to the administrator if the backup is pending for a specific amount of time. This app sends backup reports to the administrators and ensures an efficient and seamless data backup process. It offers backup support through CD and USB drives. UrBackup’s web interface shows all essential information such as client status, recent activities, and valuable stats. This app is a perfect choice for server backups as it uses a mixture of image and file backups to ensure data security and swift restorations. UrBackup is another open-source server backup tool that supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. Donec at orci accumsan, vehicula nulla at, pharetra odio. Sed viverra massa vitae diam cursus laoreet. I would love to book you for an assessment of mail defence chain of Denmark's institutions. Rk.dk is the official domain name of the Rødovre Kommune (municipality).Īs a test, we forged a mail with a non-existent sender address from rk.dk: From: Jeffrey Bencteux The SPF record of Simply is: $ dig +short txt We rented a server on for around 200DKK (including a required domain registration) which was attributed to IP 185.20.205.41.įrom the results of running the script, we could see that the following domains were using simply's SPF records and/or IP ranges: It makes it a good target for our experiment. Simply is one of Denmark's biggest VPS providers. What we found was that providers offered to rent servers that have IPs in, enabling a rented server to serve as a legitimate mail sender for. Then if SPF record looks like the below: $ dig +short txt So if SPF record looks as such: $ dig +short txt This means that anyone able to rent a server within the range can pass the SPF checks made by the defense mail chain for a domain that includes the provider in the record. Unfortunately for their clients, these providers do not only include the IP addresses of the provider's SMTP servers made available for their clients, but also the IP addresses of servers available for rent. This gave us a list of domains having these providers in their SPF includes. Next, we identified Denmark's main hosting providers and searched for occurrences of these in the results of the previous step. Running the script for our dataset takes about a minute. While this is definitively not the most scalable approach, it does the job for small lists. We made a shell script to recursively query the SPF record of a list of domains. The result was a list of 259 unique domains, including ministries, municipalities, and diverse official institutions. Most of the domain names we gathered come from listing official government websites and crawling PDFs from these websites to get email addresses and extract the domain part of them. We used a rather restricted dataset to specifically target Danish institutions. They were all contacted in due time before this post. We identified 4 of 259 tested domains at risk of this technique. Do the above for the least amount of money possible.Targeting governmental or critical institutions in Denmark.Spoofing mails sender domains via loose SPF configurations. The objectives of the experiment were the following: As an example, we successfully impersonated top-level employees of Danish institutions for around 600DKK ($88).īecause detection and prevention of these types of attacks are difficult, we also included our recommendations in this article. While the technical requirements to conduct the attack are pretty simple, the impact on an organization can be high. Note that the techniques used below have been found by others and used before, this article is however a real-life example that confirms SPF risks. In particular, we focused on spoofing certain mail domains that have an SPF configuration that introduces the risks of impersonating mail addresses at these domains. Both an article written by Sebastian Salla and observations made during technical assessments lead us to an experiment on SPF records of Danish domains. But something about the tone of the trailers made me slightly suspicious that Ayo might not turn out to be the sweet, adorable mascot he was made out to be. Of course, I was given little reason to believe that Ayo would be evil, beyond the fact that he is a clown. If a gamer enjoys side scrolling platformers and does not suffer a fear of clowns, this is an easy recommendation.I’ve had a lot of fun with Ayo the Clown leading up to the game’s release, writing a continuing series of little articles attempting to discern whether Ayo is a cute, happy clown or a creepy, murderous clown. There are even 3 difficulty settings so that the experience can be a bit more fine-tuned depending on the audience. It is a respectable length for a low price that can be enjoyed by all ages. The key word when it comes to Ayo the Clown is fun. The saving grace is that since the run time is about 8 hours and there is such a variety, if there are some that you do not enjoy, they usually don’t last long enough to really hurt your experience. The controls beyond the wall jump are fine by the way. Perhaps by removing the needless fishing mini game there could have been extra time to tighten up the controls on the wall jumps, which are awful, perhaps some of the worst I can recall. When you spread yourself so thin, it’s not surprising to make little mistakes. There are auto scrolling levels, levels where you fly a helicopter almost like a shooter, and even levels where you drive around in a tank where you have to manually aim the cannon. The bit of tripping up that the game does that was referred to earlier comes from all of the different mechanics in it. The only odd choice was making the basic jump be something that you have to unlock rather being granted from the beginning at least it is only a level and a half away. Of course when you unlock one, you can anticipate using it for a series of puzzles and obstacles for the levels that immediately follow. As you progress you will unlock tried and true maneuvers such as slides and wall jumps at very nicely spaced out intervals. The game provides a very nice arsenal of abilities to be used in the adventure. In regards to the story, the very boldly cell shaded still shots used as a sort of cut scene are wonderfully animated. The player only really needs to know that they are to run and jump from the left side of the level to the right all while doing random things such as using swaying mushrooms as platforms, stopping on floating fishes and of course grabbing gems all throughout. That’s it, not much more to read into it than that and there doesn’t need to be. This is a game about a clown on an adventure to rescue his dog. It’s almost expected from these kid friendly games at this point but there does not have to be a face on an anchor in the pier level and I can’t imagine any other time where the hero in a game wears a boot upside down on their body, that also has a face on it, that naturally sprays fire. When you reach a checkpoint within a level for example, a hand will reach out and slap a pie in the clowns face. The charm really comes from all of the little touches that could be missed or unappreciated if you just observe from a far. Since the game doesn’t take on a serious subject matter, there is a lot of freedom to explore different visual locations, NPCs and even power ups. The use of 3D assets on flat backgrounds while having them scroll at slightly different speeds adds a great feeling of depth to what is already a very creative, imaginative world. Graphically the team behind the game made a decision to go with a very simplistic art style that allows for the highlighting of bold characters and colorful designs rather than a focus on technical prowess. While it is a very competently built game that aims to send everyone home happy there are a few small instances where it trips itself up over its own ambitions. Ayo the Clown is a platformer built on the stronger foundations of the genre that is both adorable and charming.
